Queen Victoria once described Clifton Village as ‘The finest suburb in the Kingdom.’ We agree! Located on the west of the city, above the impressive Avon Gorge, the area boasts a number of key attractions:
– Over the Avon Gorge stands Brunel’s famous suspension bridge, a masterpiece of Victorian engineering.
– Across the suspension bridge are Leigh Woods, with delightful walks and the beautiful Nightingale Valley.
– The Camera Obscura boasts an awe-inspiring 360º view above the Gorge.

– To the north of Clifton are the Bristol Downs, an area of maintained and natural grassland, ideal for walks, sports and recreation.
– To the south of the Downs is the Victorian Bristol Zoo, with superb gardens and an extensive collection of animals, insects and reptiles.
– Below the suspension bridge is Hotwells, where recent waterfront development has improved the environment and popularity of the area.
– Hotwells is at the entrance to Bristol’s Floating Harbour and has many nautical ties, including pubs with nautical themes as well as the frequent ferry to the City Centre.
– To the south west of Clifton and Hotwells is the Ashton Court Estate, a large expanse of grass and woodlands permanently open to the public.
The International Balloon Fiesta, the Ashton Court Free Festival and the North Somerset Show are all held at the Ashton Court Estate.
– The area has a wide range of excellent restaurants, pubs and bars catering to all tastes.
